Antrim Borough Council has joined forces with Dogs Trust to offer you the opportunity to have your dog microchipped free of charge at the following venues from 10am to 3pm:
Monday 30 April Trea Gardens , Toome
Tuesday 1 May Wallace Park, Templepatrick
Wednesday 2 May Greystone Community Centre
Thursday 3 May Stiles Community Centre
Friday 4 May Lough Shore car park
Paul Chapman, Borough Warden explains, “It is now a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped. So, we would encourage you to come along and take advantage of this great offer, which can usually cost anything up to £25. It is a simple procedure of implanting a small chip, which includes details of his owner and address, between the shoulder blades of the dog. Then, if a dog gets lost, a local vet or dog warden can scan the pet, retrieve the chip number and reunite him with his owners.”
Paul continues, “We will also be on hand to make you aware of other matters regarding responsible dog ownership with respect to relevant legislation. This will include stray dogs, unwanted dogs, licensing, welfare, fouling and barking dogs.”
Ronnie Milsop, Dogs Trust Northern Ireland Campaigns Manager remarks, "The legislation represents a significant step forward for dog welfare and responsible dog ownership and we have been delighted that so many dog owners in Northern Ireland have taken advantage of our offer of a free microchip and hope that by working with Antrim Borough Council we can reach even more. Staff from the nearby Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Ballymena hope that Antrim dog owners will take advantage of the offer and look forward to meeting them and their four-legged friends.”
