Antrim Borough Council would like to thank all its residents for their patience and understanding during the suspension of its waste collection service during the recent snowfall. Peter Jones, Cleansing Manager with Antrim Borough Council explains, ‘Whenever we experience snowfall within the Borough, a decision has to be made on whether the refuse collection should carry on as normal or be suspended. The decision was taken last Wednesday to suspend the refuse collection service as, following inspection, the roads within the estates were deemed unsafe for a 26 tonne lorry. Not only were the lives of our employees at risk, the Council had to consider what would happen if a lorry slid and either crashed into a car, or worse still a child.’ Peter continued, ‘Following suspension of bin collections, we always communicate the alternative arrangements to our Ratepayers. An announcement was made on the local radio station and a leaflet drop took place to the households involved, detailing the alternative arrangements.’ |
