At approx 3.30 am on Thursday March 16th, fire broke out at the long barn at Antrim Borough Council’s Clotworthy Arts Centre. The barn is used by Community Arts Projects and as additional accommodation to the main Arts Centre. David McCammick, Chief Executive of Antrim Borough Council, issued the following statement, “It is with regret that I learned of the fire at the barn at Clotworthy Arts Centre. Investigations into the cause of the fire by the PSNI and Fire Authority are ongoing and it may be several days before further information becomes available. At this stage, it would appear that nothing of cultural significance has been damaged. I would like to commend the Fire Authority on their quick action and dedication in tackling the fire and managing to preserve the shell of the building. Understandably, the staff at Clotworthy Arts Centre are extremely upset at the fire, however even under such traumatic circumstances they are doing their utmost to salvage the situation and the main Arts Centre will be open to the public again this afternoon.” |
