Air quality is actively monitored via nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide tubes which are strategically placed around the Borough. Particulate matter is also monitored in the Antrim Town Area.
Air Quality is reviewed to ensure compliance with EC derived targets for sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, lead, particulates (PM 10), benzene and 1,3-butadiene. Complaints are investigation in relation to the burning of material or defective operation of fuel burning devices. The erection of chimney heights are assesed and approved prior to use.
