The aim of this area of work is to reduce the risk to consumers by striving to ensure that all food produced, imported or sold within the Borough is fit for human consumption; is of genuine quality and composition, correctly labelled and free from contamination. To achieve this aim the following activities are provided: - 1. Planned inspections of all food businesses 2. Routine microbiological sampling of food 3. Routine compositional sampling of food 4. Responding to food hazard warnings 5. Advice to new businesses 6. Investigation of consumer food complaints 7. Investigation of food poisoning 8. Monitoring the importation of fish and fishery products via Belfast International Airport
