The Council is comprised of 19 elected representatives. Local elections are held every four years on a Proportional Representation system. The electoral areas represented are Antrim South East, Antrim North West and Antrim Town.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected annually at the AGM in June. The current Mayor is Councillor Pam Lewis and the Deputy Mayor is Councillor Alan Lawther. Membership of Committees is also agreed at this meeting.

The Council has a range of direct responsibilities and, in addition, has a range of consultative and representative roles.

Antrim Borough Council's Chief Executive is David McCammick who has overall responsibility for the organisation and work of the Council.
