Antrim District Policing Partnership

WELCOME BY CHAIRPERSON - COUNCILLOR PAM LEWIS

Pam LewisAs the Chairperson of Antrim DPP, I would like to welcome you to this web page, which will explain a little about Antrim DPP and what it does. For more information on the work of Antrm DPP click on the link at the bottom of the page to go to the Antrim DPP web site.

On the 1st April 2008 Antrim DPP underwent a significant change with seven new Independent Members being appointed by the Northern Ireland Policing Board. The new Members are: -

  • Mr Seamus Davis from Antrim
  • Mr Paul Hanna from Crumlin
  • Mrs Una Johnston from Toomebrdge
  • Mr Martin Logan from Toomebridge
  • Mr Padraig MacFhearraigh from Belfast
  • Ms Loiuse McGuckin from Crumlin
Ms Amanda Millar working in Antrim

Two Independent Members were reappointed to the DPP and they are: -

Mrs Mairead Burke from Randalstown
Mrs Pam Surphlis from Antrim

Antrim DPP was created to give local people from across the Borough the opportunity to have their say in how local policing is being delivered and to make "local people shaping local policing" a reality. The 19 Members are fully committed to making local policing accessible to all who live and work in the Borough of Antrim. The membership of the DPP is drawn from all areas of the Borough including:

Antrim town, Randalstown, Toomebridge, Crumlin and Templepatrick

AIMS OF THE DPP

  • Make the local Chief Inspector of the PSNI aware of local policing issues which have been identified by the community
  • Work with the Area Commander to prioritise these issues and develop annual performance targets in the local policing plan
  • Monitor police performance against these targets published each year in the local policing plan
  • Develop practical ways of obtaining the community's co-operation in working with the PSNI to prevent crime and protect our community
  • To act as a forum for the community and the DPP to discuss local policing issues

ACTIVITIES OF THE DPP

Antrim DPP has developed a number of initiatives, through a partnership approach, in order to meet its aims.

One of these was to bring a hard hitting, informative Road Safety Roadshow to Antrim in February 2008 in order to help educate young drivers, and some not so young drivers, in the dangers of speeding and careless driving. Over 600 young people aged 16 to 21 years of age attended two shows.

The DPP is currently developing iniatives to address burglary and anti social behaviour.

NEXT PUBLIC MEETING

Do you have a hearing impairment? Antrim DPP provides a hearing induction loop for all those using a hearing aid to enable them to participate in DPP Public meetings. If you are deaf then the DPP can provide signing facilities as well, please contact the DPP Manager for more information.

In order to give everyone who lives or works in the Antrim Borough, of all ages, the opportunity to have a real say in how local policing is provided, Antrim DPP organise open, public meetings, and invite the senior police officers to explain how the police are performing against the targets set and agreed with the DPP Members.

The purpose of these meetings is to provide a public forum for you the community to discuss issues of concern and to ask questions of the police as to how they propose to address these issues.

You are invited to the next DPP Public Information Meeting on Tuesday 27th May at 7pm in Templepatrick Primary School, Lylehill Road, Templepatrick. This event is free and is your opportunity to discuss local policing issues that affect anywhere in the Antrim Borough with the local police. Refreshements will be served after the meeting at approximately 9pm.

For more information contact the DPP Manager. E.DPP@antrim.gov.uk T. 028 9446 3113 ext 1348 or Textphone 028 9448 1343.
