On 1 May 2012, sunbed use in Northern Ireland became regulated by new legislation which affects operators of sunbed premises and those who hire and sell sunbeds.
The Sunbeds Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 was introduced because of the growing evidence of the health risks associated with sunbed use, including skin cancer, with young people at particular risk. Guidance has also been produced to help operators of sunbed premises and those who hire and sell sunbeds comply with new law.
