Health and Safety

HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK

Fork lift truckEnvironmental Health Officers from Antrim Borough Council will inspect retail, wholesale and office premises in the Borough to ensure that these premises are safe to work in and to visit. The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) deal with other premises e.g. factories and manufacturing premises.

Health and Safety at Work legislation is concerned with the prevention of injuries or disease to people at work and those who visit the workplace. Employers have legal responsibilities to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees, but equally employees have a responsibility to adhere to the employer's health and safety rules.

If health and safety management is not considered a priority in a business, then serious accidents and ill health can be the result, leading to enormous costs to the business in terms of absence, insurance premiums and civil claims.

Environmental Health Officers will inspect workplaces, investigate accidents and complaints and offer information and advice on a wide range of health and safety matters to businesses, employees and members of the public.

SPRING CONFERENCE

This Conference will take place in Tullyglass Hotel, Ballymena on Wednesday 25 April and is organised through a partnership of the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), the Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG), the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the Northern Ireland Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (NIC/ICTU) and Ballymena Borough Council representing the District Councils of NorthernIreland.

The Conference theme is Risk Management – Past,Present and Future. The Conference will explore the priority issues for workplace health and safety in
Northern Ireland alongside the need for an approach that delivers sensible risk management. The event will aim to encourage the audience to have a clear focus on where attention needs to be paid in terms of effective health and safety management, especially in today’s economic climate. Breakout sessions including case
studies dealing with safe maintenance issues and vulnerable workers will also be included.

Cost per delegate £100
