HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK
Environmental Health Officers from Antrim Borough Council will inspect retail, wholesale and office premises in the Borough to ensure that these premises are safe to work in and to visit. The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) deal with other premises e.g. factories and manufacturing premises.
Health and Safety at Work legislation is concerned with the prevention of injuries or disease to people at work and those who visit the workplace. Employers have legal responsibilities to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees, but equally employees have a responsibility to adhere to the employer's health and safety rules.
If health and safety management is not considered a priority in a business, then serious accidents and ill health can be the result, leading to enormous costs to the business in terms of absence, insurance premiums and civil claims.
Environmental Health Officers will inspect workplaces, investigate accidents and complaints and offer information and advice on a wide range of health and safety matters to businesses, employees and members of the public.
