What is Sports Development? "To develop and promote activities, resources and structures within Antrim Borough to encourage appropriate participation and opportunities." Sports Development involves the provision of opportunities for all those interested to participate and improve their performance in sport. Opportunities are provided via a wide range of organisations: primary and secondary schools, community and youth groups, sports clubs, local councils, Education and Library Boards, Governing Bodies of sport and Antrim Sports Advisory Association. Sports Development is an equivocally contested term. It can mean the development of sport for sports sake and equally the use of sport and physical activity opportunities for the development of society - sport as a social instrument. Sports development is about the development of communities through sport and physical activity and the development of sports performers through communities. Sports Development at Antrim Borough Council aims to provide the community with top quality programmes to help encourage and support anyone taking part in sport or simply trying to live an active lifestyle.
