Walking in the Borough of Antrim |
Walking is one of the simplest, safest and most effective forms of physical activity.
It is recommended that every adult in Northern Ireland should take part in at least 30 mins of moderate physical activity five days a week. With NI having one of the largest rates of heart disease and stoke in the western world, taking regular moderate exercise such as walking is an effect method at reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The best way to ensure that you are exercising moderately is to check that you can walk faster than normal but can still talk without being completely out of breath. If you are unable to talk, slow down and it maybe advisable to contact your GP, particularly if there is a history of cardiovascular disease in the family.
