Highway to Health

Highway to Health LogoHighway to Health is a simple and innovative scheme which aims to encourage people of all ages to walk for leisure and good health. Along with a map board at the start of each selected route, it uses attractive yellow and blue pole signs at one kilometre intervals to encourage the walker to keep one foot in front of the other.

Antrim Borough Council, in conjunction with Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stoke (NICHS) and various community groups, has established four walking routes within the Borough. These are:

Antrim/Loughshore (in conjunction with NICHS)

This walk is situated adjacent to Antrim Town which takes in Antrim Castle Gardens and Antrim Lough Shore Park. It is 3.19km in length and can be walked in either direction within a comfortable 30 mins. This walk is mostly flat and is recommended for those who are just taking up walking and want to make the most of the beautiful surrounds Antrim Town has to offer.

Toomebridge (in conjunction with NICHS and TIDAL)

Again for those people who have just taken up walking or fancy a short stroll and a bit of car spotting, then this 30 min walk is recommended. The walk starts from Toome Main Street leading onto the Moneynick Road, walking alongside the A6 Toome Bypass before looping back along the Roguery Road into Main Street. This walk is 3.02 km (1.88 miles) in length.

Randalstown (in conjunction with NICHS and Randalstown Arches Association)

This circular route can be walked in under 30 minutes and is 2.79 km in length. The route starts from New Street and takes in the historic Randalstown Viaduct and scenic River Maine before looping back through Randalstown Main Street and back to the start again. This walk is recommended for those who are after a gentle stroll with a few steep inclines.
