Active Communities

Active Communities is a Sport Northern Ireland investment programme that sees Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Councils joining forces to employ and train a network of coaches and physical activity leaders.  These coaches and leaders will deliver physical recreation and sport in community and club settings across both the Antrim and Newtownabbey Boroughs.

Programme activities are open to everyone but the main aim of the programme is to increase participation in sport and physical recreation especially in under represented groups and to create opportunities especially for women and girls, older people and people with a disability to participate in sport and physical recreation.

What opportunities are available?

Regardless of your age, ability or fitness level, Active Communities has something to offer everyone.  We have a number of specialist coaches and activity leaders who can offer a range of diverse activities that are tailored to the age, ability and fitness levels of participants. These activities can be delivered onsite at a centre, school or club near you!

Activities include:

• Sports: Cricket, Athletics, GAA, Hockey, Rugby
• Dance
• Physical Activity for Older People
• Exercise referral

How to get involved?

All Activities organised by the team will be publicised in local leisure centres, community centres, press and also on the websites of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Councils.

For further information on the Active Communities Programme please contact Development Manager Janine Harvey T: 028 9446 3113 ext 2148 or E: janine.harvey@antrim.gov.uk
