Carrying a B1 Listing, the Barbican Gate Lodge formed the main entrance to Antrim Castle from the town and was built c.1818 as the final stage in a process that began with a major remodelling of Antrim Castle in 1813. Its architectural features of battlement and neo-Tudor twin towers framing a great Tudor arch strongly echo the work carried out on the Castle and are believed to be by the same architect, John Bowden of Dublin. Having fallen into disrepair after years of neglect, a major restoration scheme was undertaken and has restored the building to its former glory.
