Staff from Tourist Information Centres across Northern Ireland joined representatives from local hotels, B&Bs and self catering accommodation recently to sample the delights of the Borough of Antrim. Kevin Guinchard, Visitor Servicing Officer for Antrim Borough Council explains, "I was delighted with the turnout at the familiarisation trip. Over thirty people attended from a wide range of Tourist Information Centres including Newry, Ballymoney, Fermanagh and Belfast, as well as many of our local accommodation providers." Kevin continues, "Participants were given a tour of Clementsmount Fun Farm, one of the Borough's newest tourist attractions and a visit was paid to Pogue's Entry to meet John McKeag, Antrim's very own potter. They were taken on a leisurely cruise around Lough Neagh on board the Maid of Antrim and in the afternoon enjoyed a stroll around the lovely Richardsons' Walled Garden at Greenmount." Kevin concludes, "It was a fantastic day, with everyone delighted to find out what the Borough has to offer visitors, whether for a day trip or longer break. It certainly was a pleasure to be able to share this with our colleagues from throughout the Province. It is always much easier to tell someone about an attraction if you have seen it for yourself. The Borough is sure to benefit from this improved knowledge amongst the local trade and TIC staff and we look forward to an increase in visitors from across the Province and further afield."
