To celebrate Compost Awareness Week, which takes place between 4 and 10 May, Antrim Borough Council is offering local composters not only the chance to get their hands on some free compost but also the chance to win a fantastic day trip for two people to the Chelsea Flower Show on 24 May. Danielle McCormick, Environmental Education & Awareness Officer with the Council, explains, "Compost Awareness Week is a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging everyone to recognise the benefits of home composting and the great results that can be achieved through using peat-free compost made from your own household and garden waste. Many people are already reaping the benefits with a home composter." Danielle continues, "Throughout Compost Awareness Week we are offering FREE compost, made from materials collected through the Council's brown bin scheme. This can be collected from our Household Recycling Centres while stocks last. Residents will need to bring a container as the compost will be not be bagged." Danielle concludes, "Not only are we giving away free compost, we are also offering the chance to win a day trip to the fabulous Chelsea Flower Show. To be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is tell us, in no more than 20 words, "I compost because........" All entries should be sent to Antrim Borough Council, Danielle McCormick, FREEPOST RRHE-LEUK-YKKR, 50 Stiles Way, Antrim, BT41 2UB or by e-mailing danielle.mccormick@antrim.gov.uk with your answer.
