The Six Mile Water Guardians training programme is well and truly underway and on Saturday 17 May, at 10am to 12noon, there's another opportunity to learn more about this fascinating stretch of water and the different invertebrates that live in rivers and streams. Ruth Wilson, Biodiversity Officer, with Antrim Borough Council explains, "This River Monitoring session will be a great opportunity to sort out our Snails and Beetles from our Shrimps and Mayflies. Invertebrates live in the river all the time and are affected by pollution. We'll learn about those that are most sensitive to pollution, like the clever Caddisflies and those that are most resistant such as the Leech and Midge. The training will be lead by the Ballinderry Fish Hatchery." Elaine Upton, Countryside Recreation Officer with Antrim Borough Council, is delighted with the interest that the Six Mile Water Guardians' scheme has generated; "There are just two training events left this season, so don't miss out - register for a place now." To book your place for the River Monitoring training or for further information, please contact Elaine Upton or Ruth Wilson at Antrim Borough Council T. 9446 3113. This event is part of the BBC "Breathing Places" programme of events.
