Antrim Borough Council has joined forces with the Dogs Trust NI to take to the roads to tell residents about all things doggy!
Paul Chapman, Borough Warden explains, “The main aim of the road show is to promote responsible dog ownership. Come along and have your dog microchipped free of charge. All we do is implant a small chip in the lower neck of the dog which includes details of his owner and address. Should your dog get lost, a local vet or dog warden can scan the dog, retrieve the chip number and reunite him with his owners.”
Paul continues, “We will also be on hand to provide information on how you can have your dog neutered free of charge, to hand out dog fouling bags and to make you aware of other matters regarding responsible dog ownership with respect to relevant legislation. This will include stray dogs, unwanted dogs, licensing, welfare, fouling and barking dogs.
Ronnie Milsop, Campaigns Manager for Dogs Trust in Northern Ireland, says, “Dogs Trust believes that neutering and microchipping are the most humane way to reduce Northern Ireland’s stray dog population, and neutering also has significant health benefits including helping to protect animals against certain cancers. Dog mess is an everyday fact of life for dog owners, and dealing with it responsibly is an important mark of respect to both your community and to your dog. The fantastic support we have received from Local Authorities shows what an important issue this is to citizens across the country.”
