Over 90 children from eight primary schools throughout the Antrim Borough took part in the Active Antrim Primary Schools Netball Challenge recently.
Supported by Netball NI, Templepatrick were the overall winners, with Groggan Primary second and Ballycraigy Primary in third place. Special guest and international netball star, Noleen Lennon, presented the awards to the winning teams before she took on an exciting challenge of scoring 15 goals in a row.
Anna Boyle, Sport and Physical Activity Development Manager for Antrim Borough Council and Northern Ireland netball player, comments, “The skill level was very impressive on the day of the tournament, considering netball is a relatively new sport to Antrim. Some of the players had only begun to play in the past few months and their enthusiasm and determination was outstanding.”
Anna continues, “Netball is a sport that we are trying to expand within the Antrim area. Having recently established the new Antrim Ladies Netball club, we can now look forward to having a part-time Active Communities coach for netball in place within the next few months. It is hoped that this coach will develop the sport of netball in schools and on to club level.”
