The Paralympic Games 2012 may not start until the end of August but the Irish Paralympic Team are already winners. They set up their pre-Games training camp in Antrim Forum and won the hearts of everyone they met with their enthusiasm, friendliness and sporting skills.
As well as the serious business of the 4-day training camp for the Games, the Team welcomed local children to the Forum for a 5-star Challenge on Friday. Around 70 children went head to head with the athletes in games such as wheelchair racing, hand cycling, rowing, Boccia, laser shooting and table tennis.
Deputy Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roderick Swann, met the athletes. He said, ‘It was my pleasure to welcome the Irish Paralympic Team to the Borough. They really are inspirational sports people and I wish them every success in the Games in August. We’re now looking forward to welcoming the other Olympians who are coming from Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, ...... to train at the Forum.’
