Fourteen young local sports stars are the latest recipients of the Enkalon Foundation /Antrim Borough Youth Sports Bursaries.
Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roy Thompson was joined by Peter Dalton from the Enkalon Foundation and Norman Craig from Antrim Sports Advisory Association to make the presentations to Kadhum Hasson (Rugby); Scott Trelford (Rugby); Zachary Cairns (Shooting); Zoe Wilson (Hockey); Ayeisha McFerran (Hockey); Claire Wilkinson (Athletics- Pole Vault); Christine McMahon (Athletics-400mh); Joanna Mills (Athletics-400m); Conor McAteer (Cycling); Conor Crilly (Rugby); Ross Patterson (Motorcycling); Jamie Patterson (Motorcycling); Grace-Louise Palmer (Soccer) and Eorann O’Neill (Swimming).
Anna Boyle, Sport & Physical Activity Development Manager with Antrim Borough Council, comments, “The Youth Sports Bursaries are jointly funded by the Enkalon Foundation and Antrim Borough Council. They are awarded to assist talented young sports performers with training and competition expenses to help enable them to reach their full potential. It is hoped that these Youth Sports Bursaries will enable them to further excel in their chosen sports and perhaps even compete at future Olympic Games.”
Applications are now open for the next period of Youth Sports Bursaries and will close on 31 August 2012. Any talented sports performer under 25 who is a resident, attends school or is a member of a club within the Antrim Borough is eligible to apply.
