HISTORIC HORTICULTURE AT ANTRIM CASTLE GARDENS

Wednesday, 15 August 2012

Antrim Castle Gardens and Clotworthy House is delighted to announce that an interesting new horticultural feature has been added to the recent £6m redevelopment project.  In keeping with the strong historical ties of the attraction, new bedding in the courtyard area has been designed in honour of the original owners of the property.  One of the beds is planted in the letters M and F which signifies the two locally iconic families of Massereene and Ferrard, while the other is the Clotworthy House coat of arms.

Gary Shaw, Cultural Services Manager at Antrim Castle Gardens, comments “History is a strong theme throughout Antrim Castle Gardens and Clotworthy House and we’re delighted that this excellent idea, initiated by the gardening team, has come to fruition.”

Paschal Corrigan, Acting Chargehand at the Gardens comments, “The design ideas were a result of a team brainstorming session and to see the outcome has been very rewarding. We wanted to stay true to the heritage of the gardens and restore them to their former glory.”

The intricate bedding includes a range of attractive plants such as, ‘sharp dragon’, ageratum, golden moss and alternanthera.
