ANTRIM TRIUMPHS IN ULSTER IN BLOOM

Thursday, 13 September 2012

Antrim Borough Council has triumphed not once but twice at this year’s Translink ‘Ulster in Bloom’ competition.

As the winners were announced at a ceremony in Belfast Castle on Thursday (13 September) it was revealed that Antrim town had beaten off stiff competition from Ballymena and Lisburn to be named runner-up in the Large Town/Small City category.  The judges, who use criteria set by the Royal Horticultural Society, were clearly impressed by the restoration of the historic Antrim Castle Gardens as they presented the Special Award to the Council for the garden.

Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roy Thompson comments, “So many people have commented to me on how wonderful the floral displays are and how they really brighten up the Borough.  The Parks team thoroughly deserve this recognition at the highest level and I would like to be the first to offer to them my warmest congratulations.”

Colin McElrath, Parks Supervisor says, “The Parks team take a great deal of pride in the floral displays planted throughout the Borough.  The Ulster in Bloom Awards are held in the highest esteem by everyone involved in horticulture and it’s very pleasing to have our efforts recognised at such as high level.”
