CELEBRATING INCLUSION & DIVERSITY: CAN INCLUSION FESTIVAL

Thursday, 20 September 2012

A festival celebrating inclusion and diversity within our communities kicks off this Friday 21 September in Carrickfergus, Antrim and Newtownabbey.  The CAN Inclusion Festival runs until Friday 5 October, National Diversity Day, and will be delivered by the CAN Peace III Partnership’s ‘Respect’ Programme.

The two week festival will launch on International Day of Peace, Friday 21 September, with events taking place at Carrickfergus Museum and Civic Centre 12:30pm; Junction One, Antrim 3:00pm; and Abbey Centre, outside BHS at 5pm.  The launch events are not to be missed and promise to get the festival off to a lively start!

Speaking about the festival, Lynda Kennedy, Respect Project Officer at Antrim Borough Council commented;

“As part of the CAN Inclusion Festival we are pleased to be able to present to the public an exhibition entitled ‘The F Word: Images of Forgiveness’.  This exhibition is a result of ‘The Forgiveness Project’ and will run in all three areas.  It is a thought provoking collection of arresting images and personal narratives exploring forgiveness in the face of atrocity.  The exhibition will be at Antrim Library from 17 - 22 September; The Whitehouse in Newtownabbey 24 – 27 September; The Barron Hall, Glengormley 28 -30 September; and Carrickfergus Museum and Civic Centre 1- 6 October, and would encourage as many people to take the opportunity to view this exhibition as possible.”

Not to be missed is a craft fair with an international flavour, taking place in Ballyclare Presbyterian Church Hall on Saturday 22 September 2-4pm.  An array of craft stalls will be on display and there will be free activity workshops for children.

A Family Play Action Day will take place in Clotworthy Gardens, Antrim, on Saturday 29 September.  From 2-5pm, this free public event includes outdoor fun and participation in a range of family friendly activities. Take your pick of 4 ‘play stations’ including orienteering, culture and friendship hunts, parachute games and drop in arts workshops!

For further information or to get a festival leaflet, contact Lynda Kennedy, Respect Project Officer, Tel: 028 9446 3113 ext 1322 or email: lynda.kennedy@antrim.gov.uk  To view the full programme of events go to www.canpeace3.org
