Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (the Act) requires public authorities, in carrying out their functions relating to Northern Ireland, to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity and regard to the desirability of promoting good relations across a range of categories outlined in the Act1. We have made the highest level commitment through our Corporate Plan 2011-2015 in which we have made the commitment to make Antrim "A Place for All". In our revised equality scheme we set out how we propose to fulfil the Section 75 statutory duties.

Environment Policy

Antrim Borough Council continues to show commitment to the environment by expanding our Environmental Management System (EMS) compliant to ISO14001:2004 Standard. As part of the EMS, the Council's services and facilities will be operated in the form of its Environment Policy.

The eleven Councils in the Eastern region of Northern Ireland, which includes Antrim Borough Council, are committed to fulfilling their responsibilities under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998), the Equality duty. The aim of the Eastern Region Waste Management Plan is to ensure facilities are provided that meet the needs of the people in the Councils in the Eastern Region and that European and UK targets for waste reduction, recycling and recovery are achieved.
